When two persons, workers, teams, or groups work together, their work rates are added.
Work Rate of A = 1 / A
Work Rate of B = 1 / B
The combined work rate is:
Combined Rate = (1/A) + (1/B)
The time required to complete the work together is:
T = 1 / [(1/A) + (1/B)]
Multiplying numerator and denominator by A×B gives the simplified formula:
T = (A × B) / (A + B)
Where:
- A = Time taken by Person A alone
- B = Time taken by Person B alone
- T = Time taken when both work together
