Osmotic Pressure Calculator
Osmotic Pressure
Osmotic pressure is the pressure required to stop the flow of solvent through a semipermeable membrane due to osmosis.
Formula
π = Φ × i × C × R × T
Where:
- π = Osmotic pressure in the selected pressure unit
- Φ = Osmotic coefficient
- i = Number of ions
- C = Concentration converted to mol/L
- R = 0.082057 L·atm·mol⁻¹·K⁻¹
- T = Absolute temperature in Kelvin
You can enter temperature in °C, °F or K, concentration in mol/L, mmol/L, mol/m³ or mmol/m³, and select the desired osmotic pressure unit. The calculator converts concentration to mol/L and temperature to Kelvin before calculation.
